Održano prvenstvo Islanda u malim bazenima / Icelandic Championships SC 2024

Although Iceland may seem far away, their results are actually very close to us, as two coaches from this region are leading the way, which further connects our swimmers. The Icelandic Junior and Open Swimming Championships were held from November 8 to 10.
SH – Sundfelag Hafnarfjardar led by Dado Fenrir Jasminuson and Mladen Tepavcevic as coaches of performance group had great success. 1 st record was set by number of participants by any club in history of Icelandic swimming – 48 swimmers swum cuts and qualified for the meet with youngest one born 2013.
Swimmers from SH managed to win total of 28 national titles, 21 silver and 16 bronze out of 46 events in open category, and 22 gold 14 silver and 9 bronze out of 36 events in junior category. In 10 relays swum only in open category SH swimmers won 9 and set new national records in all of them. Additionally, SH swimmers set 2 Absolute records in 100m butterfly and 50m freestyle (previous record held by Dado), 8 junior records and 1 age group record. We would like to highlight that Nađa Đurović, originally from Kragujevac, has become the junior national champion in the 50m, 100m, and 200m freestyle, as well as in the 50m and 100m butterfly, and she is set to compete at the Nordic Championships.
Highest points swimmers were both from SH , Snorri Dagur Einarsson 100m breaststroke 59,02 and Vala Dis Cicero 200m freestyle 1:58,63
Due to WA and EA calendars Icelandic SC championship was held early at beginning of November which was a challenge itself and gave us only 12 weeks since beginning of season. That was criteria competition for a national team selection and SH managed to qualify total of 14 swimmers for a winter national team competitions. 9 swimmers swum cuts for Scandinavian Junior and Open Championship which will be held in Danmark Vejle fro 1 st to 3 rd of December. Additionally, 5 swimmers qualified for the World SC Championships which will be held in Budapest from 10 o 15 th of December where Dado will also go as a part of National Team coaches.
Mladen Tepavčević stated on this occasion: “As these two competitions are close to the Icelandic championships, with only 3 weeks until the Nordic Championships and 4.5 weeks until the World Championships, it will be a challenge for both of us to maintain and improve the excellent form of our swimmers. However, the goal is definitely for them to swim even faster and beat their best times at these competitions. It would be great to return home with a few medals from the Nordic Championships, considering that it is quite a challenging meet with swimmers from Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Finland, and others, who traditionally swim very fast at this event. For the World Championships, the goal is for the swimmers to achieve their personal best times, and it would be excellent to have a few afternoon swims.”
